By His Wounds We Are Healed

“HE HAS RISEN, HE HAS RISEN IN DEED!!!!” If you have been to the store recently you know the Easter decorations have been taken down. If you live in Tomah you know the bunny at our Wal-Mart is no longer counting down the days. The Easter candy if it is still out has been marked down; if you have a sweet tooth go stock up. Easter 2018, is now in our rearview mirror.

Yet it is not too far in the background. Sunday the church catholic (universal) gathered to proclaim “HE HAS RISEN, HE HAS RISEN IN DEED!!!” The church celebrated the resurrection of the King of kings and the Lord of Lords. Many focused on the empty tomb. We at Tomah took a little different approach to Easter Sunday celebration. At TCON we focused on the wounds of Jesus.  We looked at Isaiah 53:5-6. My thesis was “By His wounds we are healed”.

Let me ask you what wounds do you have, which are spouting puss, threatening to poison your body? Causing you to die; keeping you from experiencing the resurrection of your Savior. We all have wound in our lives, but the question is, are they healing, becoming scars or do you keep opening the wound?

By His wounds we are healed. Let’s talk about these wounds for a second. They are a wounds, we gave to Christ. I know none of us were there thousands of years ago. But the scripture tells us, “we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” Romans also tells us “The wages of sin are death”. So wither you are like me and you have a rap sheet of sins. Or you are like my wife and your worst sin was staying out after curfew, we all have sinned. It was our sin which gave Jesus the wounds. But by His wounds we are healed.

There are different ways we are wounded. There are wounds which others inflict on us. We have no control over these. Then there are wounds, which we inflict on ourselves. We all have scars the question is, are these being healed by the wounds of Jesus or are you keeping them open? Allowing them to fester and spread poison throughout your body?

Yeah, yeah pastor, we all got wounds. I get it, I got it, and I’m good. But you don’t understand my spouse cheated on me. They betrayed me, they cut me to the bone. You’re right I don’t understand. But Jesus does, He was betrayed and sold for thirty pieces of silver by one of His close friends and followers. Pastor you don’t get it. My parent beat me severely on a regular basis. They should have protected me, yet they harmed me. You’re right, I do not understand. But Jesus does. Pilate could have protected Jesus, yet he ordered Him beaten and handed over to be crucified.

By His wounds we are healed. So here is this week’s question. Will you allow His wounds to heal you? Will you allow the wounds to become scars which you will allow God to use to bring healing to others? By His wounds we are healed. It is time for the wounds to be cauterized and begin the healing process.  Stop the puss and poison from spreading throughout your body. Go and be healed, then share the scars to bring healing to others. Today is the day of resurrection. Food for thought Pastor Travis out.
